Project: Security issues within Serbian 2016 election campaign

CENTRE in the Election Night in Media Center Belgrade

Public Policy Research Centre will participate in a discussion regarding the 2016 election results. The discussion will be organized on April 24 in Media Center Belgrade, by Center for Research, Trasnperancy and Accountability (CRTA).

In anticipation of the first election results, participants will discuss different features of the electoral process including the campaing content. On the behalf of CENTRE, Svetlana Djurdjevic Lukic will present the research on political parties’ approach to security issues.

CENTRE has published two analysis of the electoral campaign from the perspective of security. These are available in Serbian under the following links (Analysis for the period March 18 - 29 and Analysis for the period March 30 - April 10).

The complete research report will be presented on Wednesday, April 27, at 12pm in Media Center Belgrade.

CENTRE’s research examines the frequency оf raising questions related to security issues, problem solutions, and statements consistency within the coalitions and with the official parties’ programs.

In accordance with its focus on human security as well as on the impact assessment of security sector reform, CENTRE has analyzed which security threats are considered, which mechanisms are proposed and which groups are targeted by politicians' statements.

In the analysis, CENTRE accessed traditional areas of security, such as issues related to the military, police, foreign policy orientation, as well as new security threats, such as migration and extremism, and everyday citizens' problems such as domestic violence.

Qualitative and quantitative analyses have been conducted based on news and TV reports. 

The research team are Svetlana DjurdjevicJelena RadomanTanja JakobiJelena Sapic i Milan Lukic, while the project has been supported by The Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF).

In 2014, CENTRE also presented its analysis of certain sectoral issues within the electoral campaign in the election night in Media Center Belgrade.
