Who are the Digital Workers from Serbia, What Kind of Jobs They Do and How Much They Earn?

In an interview with Tanjug, Jelena Sapic and Milica Skocajic, members of the Center, presented the preliminary results of the survey "The Gig Economy in Serbia: Who are the digital workers from Serbia and why do they work on global platforms?“. The interview was covered by the following portals: 021.rs, b92.net, blic.rs, n1info.com, and mondo.rs. (published September 30, 2018).

The results show that most of the jobs on digital platforms are done by young people who want additional earnings, then those who do not have another job, or can get more money online than offline for the same work. Digital work includes various tasks - from IT to design, translation, programming, writing, teaching a foreign language or other. It is through platforms such as Freelancer, UpWork, Bibo, and others that these jobs are mediated to the digital workers. About 65.8 percent of the so-called "gig workers" believe that they will "die on the go" and see no reason to save up for the retirement. However, most of those who work longer have a regulated status and pay a lump-sum tax or have a private limited company (d.o.o).
