CENTRE’s Director about community policing for daily „Večernje novosti“

Community policing means there are enough people in the police departments that will every day communicate with citizens in various locations. These people should be blose to the citizens, to speak the local language, their patrols should involve women, Roma and other minorities – said CENTRE’s Director Svetlana Đurđević-Lukić for daily „Večernje novosti“.

Although it is among the priorities of the Ministry of Interior Affairs and there is a strategy from April 2013, the concept of community policing in Serbia still has not been implemented in practice. As a consequence the state has lost almost one million euros from the European funds. We remind researchers of the Centre for years dealing with the experiences of policing at the local level, how young people and also LGBT see their own safety. What is the concept of community policing in East Timor investigated Svetlana Djurdjević-Lukić, and Jelena Radoman what strategy of community policing means Roma population in Serbia.
