National HDR 2016: How to improve security of vulnerable municipalities in Serbia?

 

The Public Policy Research Center is selected by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to conduct a research and compile the 2015 National Human Development Report (NHDR) for Serbia, titled “Resilience of Municipalities”. In the aftermath of May 2014 floods, UNDP and the Government of Serbia agreed that the “Resilience of Municipalities” represents a strategically important theme, which requires in-depth analysis through a human development lens. 
 
For more than a decade, national and regional HDR teams advance the human development conceptual framework and address the most pressing development challenges of the day. These reports, published in over 135 countries, are grounded in thorough analytic research and represent a dynamic advocacy tools. They generate lively debates around the policies and actions needed to accelerate human development and achieve the Millennium Development Goals, i.e. Sustainable Development Goals.
 
As the forth National HDR, the report “Resilience of Municipalities” will be launched in early 2016 in Belgrade.  Serbian report builds on the global 2014 Human Development Report - Sustaining Human Progress: Reducing Vulnerabilities and Building Resilience, which provides a fresh perspective on vulnerability and proposes new ways to strengthen resilience. The team of experts and researchers is led by Branka Andjelkovic, CENTER’s Program Director, and expert in public administration and social inclusion.

Svetlana Đurđević Lukić Fund: HUMAN SECURITY FOR THE NEW CENTURY

Uncertainty and vulnerability of the individual in the 21st century is the focus of CENTAR’s Human Security Programme. Building on foundations set by the recently departed co-founder and longtime director of CENTAR, Svetlana Đurđević Lukić, CENTAR regards security as a human right and advocates for construing a society in which every individual will have opportunities to reach their potential. Svetlana had a talent of pioneering the introduction of many topics – primarily concerned with the security of vulnerable groups – into security discourse within Serbia. Fostering this approach, starting from 2016, CENTAR, as part of its foundation named after the late Svetlana, holds a competition with the goal of inspiring young researchers to examine modern day threats.
